At a glance
Everything you need to know before booking, at a glance.
Shorter than a full initial session—focus is on restoring existing work.
Refresh healing is typically lighter and faster than an initial procedure.
Regular color refreshes maintain vivid results without starting from scratch.
Previously treated skin accepts anesthetic well—most clients find refreshes easier.
What it is
Permanent makeup fades over time. Sun exposure, skincare actives, skin cell turnover, and natural metabolism all gradually lighten the pigment in the skin. A color refresh session rebuilds that saturation before the work becomes unrecognizable.
Refresh sessions work on previously completed brow or lip PMU—either done at this studio or elsewhere. They are more economical and faster than starting over, and they give you the opportunity to make minor adjustments to tone or shape.
Regular refreshes every 12–18 months are the simplest way to keep permanent makeup looking its best indefinitely.
Pre-care, day-of, and healing
Full protocols from marilipz.com
Standard prep applies
Follow the same pre-care as your original procedure for the best color retention.
Come with bare brows or lips
Arrive with the treatment area completely clean and free of makeup. Bring photos of the result you want to get back to.
Same aftercare as your original procedure
Keep the area dry, protected and away from active skincare ingredients for 7–10 days.
Three details people skim past
Small choices upstream prevent surprises on procedure day— especially around prior pigment, stimulants, and comfort planning.
- 1Best time to refresh
Refresh sessions work best when the original pigment has faded 50–70%—enough to see what remains without covering too much of it. Very faded or very dark work may be assessed differently.
- 2Work from another studio
We can refresh PMU done elsewhere, but the condition of the original work matters. Warm or ashy tone shifts, unclear shapes, or very dark existing pigment may require extra sessions or a different approach. Send photos first.
- 3Tone corrections at refresh
Refreshes can also correct unwanted color shifts (pink brows, orange lips) that developed as pigment aged. Let us know if tone correction is a priority so we can select the right pigment.
Not sure if it is time to refresh? Send a photo and we will give you an honest assessment—sometimes a refresh can wait a few more months.
Candidacy at a glance
Side-by-side framing keeps expectations clear: who this tends to serve well, and when we pause or decline. Honest screening, not scare tactics.
You're likely a good fit if...
- Your PMU has faded noticeably and no longer looks fresh
- Color has shifted in tone (cooler, warmer, or patchy)
- It has been 12+ months since your last brow or lip PMU session
- You want to extend your existing PMU without starting over
- Minor shape adjustments would improve the overall look
When we may not proceed
- Under 18 years of age
- Pregnant or nursing
- Active skin irritation or infection in the treatment area
- Less than 4 months since last PMU session
