At a glance
Everything you need to know before booking, at a glance.
Individual sessions are shorter, but the process requires multiple appointments.
Adequate healing time between removal sessions is essential for safety.
Complete removal is not always possible. Significant lightening is the realistic goal.
Topical numbing is applied before the procedure. Some post-session tenderness is normal.
What it is
PMU Removal uses a saline-based solution—rather than laser—to draw unwanted pigment out of the skin. The saline creates osmosis through the skin, pulling the deposited pigment up and out as the treatment area heals over the following weeks.
Saline removal is preferred over laser for cosmetic pigments (brows, lips, eyeliner) because laser can cause unpredictable reactions with iron oxide pigments, sometimes causing them to turn darker or change color. Saline is a safer and more controlled approach for PMU.
Complete removal is rarely guaranteed. The realistic goal is significant lightening—enough to allow new PMU work over the top, or to reduce the appearance of unwanted tattooing to a level that is manageable.

Prepare your skin before removal
The treatment area must be free of active irritation and out of direct sun before each removal session.
Come clean and with realistic expectations
Arrive with the treatment area completely bare. Removal is a gradual process—results are assessed session by session.
Post-removal care is critical
The treated area will crust and peel. This is the removal process working. Picking the scab disrupts the pigment extraction.
Three details people skim past
Small choices upstream prevent surprises on procedure day— especially around prior pigment, stimulants, and comfort planning.
- 1Complete removal is not guaranteed
PMU removal is not like erasing a drawing. Very deep or very saturated pigment can be lightened significantly but may never disappear completely. We will be honest about what we can realistically achieve during your consultation.
- 2Session spacing is non-negotiable
Each removal session must be followed by a minimum 4–6 week healing period before the next session. Speeding up the process risks scarring and actually makes removal less effective.
- 3Dark pigments and prior corrections
Thick, dark or very old PMU—especially work that was done over previous corrections—may require more sessions and may not fully resolve. Assess the existing work together with your artist before committing to a removal plan.
Removal is the beginning of a conversation, not a one-session solution. Book a consultation first so we can look at your existing work and give you an honest timeline.
